E3 Seniors Mentor St. Odilia Students

On March 7, 7th grade students from St. Odilia Catholic School in Shoreview visited Totino-Grace to complete an ongoing engineering project with juniors of our E3 Engineering Institute. Over the past month, the middle school students have been working with Totino-Grace on an an engineering challenge to build a tower that would hold significant weight. They began with initial designs and built prototypes out of cardboard. Through the engineering design process, they tested and revised their pieces. The final component of the activity was to test the strength of their tower design using a plastic sheet cut by Totino-Grace's laser printer. E3 seniors and St. Odilia students connected online, with TG seniors offering insight and feedback in response to the middle school students' concepts and eventually turning their drawings into CAD files so that they could be lasercut for assembly and testing during the Totino-Grace visit. Our partnership with St. Odilia and other partner Catholic schools on similar projects has been a great benefit to all students involved.
