Advent 2017 at Totino-Grace

Advent means arrival. In the season of Advent, the church prepares to celebrate the coming of Jesus. We recall the past, celebrate the present, and look to the future with hope. We prepare to celebrate not only the birth of Jesus but his presence in our family. We wait for the return of the Lord at the end of time when all hope will be fulfilled. We await the coming of the light that will shine in the darkness, shining light on our path to peace. The video below was created by the De La Salle Christian Brothers of the Midwest District to help us remember -- and share with others -- what the Advent Liturgical season is all about.

Throughout Advent, Totino-Grace will offer a variety of opportunities for students and staff:

The Giving Tree

We will again renew our Giving Tree Program. This year, our collection will be focused on the 420 kids who live at Mary's Place in Minneapolis. In addition to the tree near the entrance of school, each homeroom received a small giving tree with a list of suggested items provided by Mary's Place. Homeroom students can decorate their tree and work together to provide gifts for children and teenagers in need during this season of giving.

Prayer Tree

We invite you to a new opportunity to pray this Advent. Outside of the Chapel will be a tree and a variety of paper ornaments. You are invited to write an intention on one of the ornaments and then place it on the tree. These intentions will be prayed for at every Tuesday morning Mass during Advent.

Meditative Prayer

During this season of advent, you are invited to participate in a meditative prayer at 7:10 AM in the chapel on Mondays. We will use a variety of scripture based prayer that allows us to take a step back from our daily stresses and enter into a deeper relationship with Christ as we await his coming this season.

On Friday, December 15, all students will have an opportunity to celebrate the sacrament of reconciliation during religion classes or free periods. Our day will begin with a reconciliation prayer service at 7:45 a.m.
