Admissions Deadlines
Early Action: Early Action Admission is defined as all admissions steps are completed by the deadline. Students may submit a progress report if a report card has not been issued. Benefits of early action include: Families will receive a $50 discount on the enrollment fee through February 15, 2025. Students will be the first accepted into the Class of 2029, first to hear about financial aid if applicable, first to secure their class spot and pick out electives, and hear about acceptance before everyone else. Students applying for scholarships must meet the Early Action deadline.
Rolling: Rolling Admission is defined as anyone that completes the admissions process after Early Action. Acceptance will be based not only on admissions requirements but available class spots. Note that elective spots and financial aid may be limited by this time.
IMPORTANT: Last year, our Class of 2028 was FULL and we had to turn away applicants due to no spots available. Apply early!
Totino-Grace begins the school year before Labor Day. Students should be enrolled NO LATER than August 15 if spots are still available.

Admissions Decision
Admissions decisions occur after review by the admissions committee of the completed application file and placement exam scores. Early action families should hear about an admissions decision in January. If accepted, enroll as soon as possible to secure class spots.
Totino-Grace seeks to serve the needs of students with a wide range of abilities. Through our Learning Pathways Program, we are able to accommodate most students who have special learning needs. However, when students score very low on the placement exam or have other needs which require accommodations, we will review their needs and determine whether Totino-Grace can provide a successful academic experience. If Totino-Grace determines it cannot provide the necessary programs for a student, we will refund the enrollment fee, and deny admission.
Poor behavior at a student's current school may also lead to a denial.
Admission for a new student may be held or denied, if the person(s) who will be financially responsible for the student, has/have a past due balance from a current or former student.
Totino-Grace reserves the right to accept or deny any student.
Enrollment (if accepted)
Once a student has been accepted, the family will receive an email inviting them to complete the Financial Responsibility Form (for split households only), Online Enrollment Contract, and submit the enrollment fee.
There will be more forms to fill out before the start of school, usually in July and/or August. Stay tuned for more information about forms and other start of school requirements in the spring and summer! Admissions will send out enrolled newsletters to keep families up to date on class party info, orientation, Eagle Round Up, uniforms, additional testing for placement if needed, and more.
Once enrolled, families will receive an Academic Preference Form. This form allows students to make course selection preference. Please note courses are filled as students register. To ensure enrollment in preferred courses we encourage submission of this form promptly.
Additional Spring Placement Testing
English Placement
The placement exam, known as HSPT, helps us with preliminary English placement for students. Based on students’ scores in three categories - verbal, reading, and language - we will place students in one of three levels of freshmen English: Honors, Standard or Foundations. Students who score below a combined total of 1250 on those three test areas will initially be placed in Foundations English. Students who have indicated interest and have a combined total of 1650 or greater on those three test areas will be placed in Honors English.
Students who have indicated an interest in Honors English but did not meet the cumulative benchmark score, are invited to take an additional writing assessment that, along with their HSPT score, will determine final placement for Honors English.
Appointments to take the additional writing assessment can be arranged by contacting Mrs. Amy Nelson, Honors English Teacher, amy.g.nelson@totinograce.org or 763-586-6330 ext 741, or by contacting Mrs. Amy Smith, Department Chair, amy.smith@totinograce.org or 763-586-6330 ext 744.
Math Placement
The placement exam (HSPT) helps us with a preliminary math placement for students. Based on the students’ scores on the math section of the HSPT, students are initially placed in one of five sections of math: Foundations Algebra 1, Standard Algebra 1, Foundations Geometry, Standard Geometry, or Honors Geometry.
Students who are currently in Pre-Algebra will automatically be placed in Algebra 1.
Students who have not had a full year of Algebra 1 (both Linear AND Quadratic) will be placed in either Foundations Algebra 1 or Standard Algebra 1.
Students who have completed a full year of Algebra 1 in 8th grade will be invited to test out of Algebra 1.
Students who have completed a full year of Geometry in 8th grade will be invited to test out of Geometry.
For students who are in a math class above Geometry, please contact admissions to arrange an assessment.
Two testing options:
- Wednesday, April 23 – 6:00 p.m.
- Saturday, April 26 – 9:00 a.m.
All Algebra and Geometry assessments will take place at Totino-Grace High School
-Students should bring their own pencil.
-Calculators will be provided.
-Testing time will be 1.5 hours (Most students will finish in less than 1.5 hours)
-Students may leave as soon as they finish the test.
-No pre-registration for the test is required and there is no fee.
-Student and Parent(s) will be notified of the results via email as soon as a placement is determined
If you have any questions about math placement, please contact Mr. Tim Glynn at tim.glynn@totinograce.org or 763-586-6330 ext. 746.
Spanish Placement
All students who registered for Spanish will be placed in level 1. Students wishing to be placed in level 2 or higher will need to complete an online placement test to assess Spanish proficiency. Testing is done online, at home. The test will be open from April 19 to May 4.
You can practice and take the test HERE.
Each student’s score will be evaluated and used to determine which placement is most appropriate. Students who are currently in a Spanish class that meets once or twice a week will likely be best served in Spanish 1 next year. Typically, 8th graders who are ready for level 2 are currently successful in a Spanish class that meets the equivalent of 45 minutes per day for one school year. Students with very advanced skills because of outside experience, such as speaking Spanish at home or immersion experience, might even be placed in level 3.
Questions? Reach out to Nora Flom.
French Placement
All students who registered for French will be placed in level 1. Students wishing to be placed in level 2 or higher must show sufficient proficiency on a French placement test. There is no fee for the test. For those students interested in upper-level placement contact Mr. William Kvot at william.kvot@totinograce.org to make arrangements for taking the French placement test at TG.
This French placement test takes place at Totino-Grace.
Science Placement
All students take a full year of physics their freshman year. The placement exam (HSPT) helps us with preliminary physics placement for students. Based on students’ scores on the Battery Composite for the HSPT, we will place students in one of three levels of physics: Honors, Standard, or Foundations. Students who score below a 400 on the Battery Composite will initially be placed in Foundations Physics. Students who have indicated interest and have a score greater than 550 on the Battery Composite will be placed in Honors Physics.
Students who have indicated an interest in Honors Physics but did not meet the benchmark score should contact Ms. Katie Koessler at katie.koessler@totinograce.org or 763-586-6330 ext. 729.

Transfer Policies
Students who transfer to Totino-Grace High School during or after their freshman year are considered transfer students. Courses, grades, and credits from the student’s previous school are evaluated to determine the graduation requirements the student has already completed and will need to complete at TG.
Credits from a previous school will count toward graduation, but courses and prior grades will not be included on the TG transcript.
When a student graduates from TG, or transfers to another high school, TG will send student records to other schools and/or colleges. These records will include a TG transcript of grades earned while attending TG, and, when applicable, additional transcripts of grades earned at other high schools. Only grades and credits earned at TG are listed on the TG transcript.
Students transferring into TG after the first semester of their junior year are not eligible for Valedictorian or Salutatorian of their senior class.
There are specific rules regarding varsity play eligibility with the MSHSL. Please contact admissions with any questions.

Homestay Program
Totino-Grace offers a limited homestay program. While we can never guarantee housing for any students, we will try out best to find a current family willing to host an international student for the year. We encourage students and their families to conduct their own searches as well.
Homestays cost $1,200 per month. The host family will use this money for things like room and board, food, utilities, and gas for things like airport transportation, getting to and from school, and activities. Families must pay for August and September up front. If coming for second semester, families must pay for January and February up front.
All host families will undergo a background check for every adult in the home. They will also go through VIRTUS training required by the Archdiocese. Home inspections will be done by staff before homestays are finalized.
Students - please let admissions know of any allergies you have, especially for animals and food.
Homestay parents would become guardians so they can take the students to any required medical appointments, etc.
